Megan Samms

Megan Samms is a farmer, natural dyer and handweaver cultivating an ancestral and land based practice. Megan lives and works in (t)he(i)r traditional home and territory, Katalisk, Ktaqmkuk (Codroy Valley, Newfoundland).

(T)He(i)r work takes functional forms and is ultimately meant for daily use and many purposes and places in a life. (T)He(i)r intention is to integrate function, beauty, connection, and usefulness in handwoven and naturally dyed clothwork, food and care; to ask questions about quality and sufficiency while troubling traditionalism.

As an internationally Indigenous person of Mi’kmaq, Nlaka’pamux and mixed settler descent, Megan reclaims the act of cloth making, dye work and farming in (t)he(i)r own traditional territory and home community.
