Corrina Hammond
My art practice has centred on the domestic, always. References are; interior decor, decor trends, and domestic life, both the pleasures of being at home and contrast to the duties of running a household.
Fashion is an inspiration, not so much the finished products in fashion, but the act of getting dressed and why items are chosen to wear and where one finds those garments.
Since graduating from Emily Carr University + Design in 1993 where I studied fine art, painting, drawing, printmaking and collage while referencing the above concerns, I've longed to study textiles and learn to weave, as I felt textiles and fibres are more appropriate mediums to better explore my ideas.
In the meantime, I was in a punk band (MAOW), I worked in the film industry, raised chickens and a child (16 years old now), fixed up an old building that I now manage (3 apartment units) helped my husband launch his own business (US tax office for dual citizens, admin) and I'm a volunteering PAC executive (for 4 years now!).

Once the draperies are hanging in the gallery I will then begin cutting away sections of the drapes to remake them into athleisure wear. This will be somewhat performative. The newly hand sewn garments will go back to the gallery for display along, with the drapery fragments), 2022
