Janet Fontaine

I have always been a maker, from sewing to knitting to drawing and now hand weaving.

My connection to hand weaving came in 2018 when a longtime friend gave me her Mother’s old four-shaft Mimi Woolhouse loom. It was love at first practice and my only regret is that I didn’t discover weaving in my 30s or 40s.

I bought an eight-shaft Louet David loom in 2019 and joined Jane Stafford’s online guild. I joined the Guild of Canadian Weavers in 2021 to gain more knowledge and inspiration from weavers across Canada.

I weave every day and find the practice to be both challenging and meditative and the finished products are appreciated for their durability, beauty and practicality.
