Elizabeth Bryan
Elizabeth Bryan has over 30 years of experience as a weaver mixing fibres and colours in her hand-dyed and handwoven scarves, bags and household textiles. Natural dyes mix with commercial dyes to create wearable/useable art on cotton, wool, silk, bamboo and Tencel. All of her items are handwoven or hand-dyed in her home studio in Orangeville. She loves the interplay of colour and watching it unfold on the loom. Her newest endeavor is creating 3 dimensional functional objects with woven cloth.
Her interest in textiles began while working in a small museum in Ontario.
She has exhibited with the Credit Valley Artisans, the Guelph Guild of Handweavers and Spinners, and the Tapestry Line Collective at the One of a Kind Show & Sale in Toronto.
Elizabeth has travelled extensively for weaving courses and workshops including Seattle, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. She has studied weaving with Madelyn van der Hooght, Susie Liles, Dianne Totten, Jette Vandermeiden, copper wire weaving with Sayward Johnson and dyeing with Lucy Slykerman and Kathrin Weber.
She is a member of the Ontario Handweavers and Spinners (OHS), Guild of Canadian Weavers, Handweavers Guild of America, Headwaters Arts, Craft Ontario and Complex Weavers. A highlight of her weaving career was being awarded the 2015 Ontario Handweavers and Spinners Scholarship to attend The Weaver’s School on Whidby Island, Washington.
Elizabeth lives in Orangeville with her family. She also loves to sing and is working on her Royal Conservatory grade 9 vocal exams.
