Amanda Rataj

I am an artist, weaver, and arts educator based in Hamilton, Ontario with a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design University. My craft practice is based in an exploration of materiality, vernacular textiles, and the ways in which we activate our surroundings through craft objects. I tend to weave domestic textiles and explore various ideas through texture, pattern, and repetition.

I’ve been fortunate to take my weaving education around the world, and have been a resident at the Icelandic Textile Arts Centre as well as a student at Kawashima Textile School in Kyoto, Japan.

I write and sell weaving patterns through my website and through retailers like Gist Yarn in the USA and in VÄV Magasinet. Other than my craft practice, I work as an art educator at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and at my local yarn store too — connecting with my community to offer feedback, advice, and help on creative projects is very rewarding!
