Membership Benefits

Membership is open to anyone interested in hand weaving — no loom required.

  • Members will receive four publications and woven samples throughout the year. Publications are available in print or digital.

  • The membership fee is paid for the calendar year of January 1 to December 31.

  • New members will received back copies for the current year if sign up is before October 31st.

  • If you apply after October 31st, your membership will be applied to the following year (unless current year is requested).

  • New members also receive (by email) a GCW Handbook that includes our Library List, Master Weavers Test Program and information about the GCW constitution.

Individual Membership Benefits

  • The Bulletin: Quarterly publications are available in Print or Digital // English and French.

  • Woven Samples:  Our dedicated volunteers provide woven samples and draft notes mailed out with each Bulletin Newsletter.

  • GCW Library: We offer past publications of the The Bulletin, books, periodicals on textiles, special studies, sample collections and videos.

  • GCW Master Weavers Certificate Program The testing including a Basic, Intermediate, Senior and Master level accreditation.

  • Volunteer - A great way to meet weavers from across the nation! Help with committees and organization of various guild tasks.

  • Apply to be on Board of Management - With a 2-year consecutive membership members may apply to any vacant position and take a seat on the board. Our team comes together (via online) 4 times a year to discuss the fundamentals of the Guild. Voting privileges are granted to board members only.

  • Scholarships - We offer 3 scholarships of $300 per year. To apply members must have a minimum 2-year consecutive membership.

  • Weaving Exchange: Members are invited to participate in our yearly ‘tea-towel’ weaving exchange. New topics are chosen each year and a conversation is held by email between participating weavers.

  • GCW Meet & Greet - The GCW doesn’t hold formal conferences but we meet at regional weaving conferences across the nation. It is an opportunity for our members to ‘meet and greet’!

 

Affiliate Guild Membership

The Affiliate Guild Membership is available to all guilds.

  • Affiliate guilds are not eligible to take the Guild of Canadian Weavers test examinations, nor sit on the board of management.
